Yesterday the boyfriend and I spent a lovely afternoon outside. First we played croquet with
jonsonite and the rest of the
Honors Croquet League. I had never played croquet before, but because we played
poison, I came in second place for our match because I was so far behind everyone else by the time the first and only player to complete the course turned poison and started picking off other players that I simply died last - though this was not entirely attributable to me, admittedly. The sky cleared up during the match and we had a lovely time standing in the sun, watching boats sail down the Montlake Cut right next to us, and playing "catcher in the rye" to keep balls hit in the direction of the canal from rolling into the canal. Also, we got HCL T-shirts, to wear with pride.
After croquet, K and I walked the Burke-Gilman trail to Gasworks Park, where there was a 2621 birthday party underway with a bouncy castle, a bored bouncy castle attendant, lots of kids' party accoutrements (princess cake, Pixy Stix, piñata), and key grown-up party accoutrements (grown-up punch, mini-booze bottles inside the piñata, scratch-off Lotto tickets). Bouncy castles are, as has been
noted before, very tiring very fast. Especially when you're a bunch of nerds whose idea of exercise is getting up from the computer to fetch another Diet Coke from the fridge. I spent much of the day appropriating jokes from
Swimming to Cambodia, which K,
stolen_tea,
tylik, and I had watched the night before. Oh,
Spalding, you are missed.
Last night
polymorphously brought over
The Devil's Backbone, and we got our horror on. It's totally the brother film to Pan's Labyrinth. Quite satisfying to watch. Oh, and speaking of movies,
another PKD adaptation comes out this week. The idea was floated on Friday of doing a PKD film fest sometime...
