The Curse of the Baritone

Dec 22, 2009 13:21

I haven't really done anything vocally for a while. Not *actual* singing with a warm-up and everything. And so it comes as no surprise to me that I can't hit some of the notes that I used to be able to hit with some regularity (and none of the notes that I'd stretch for and sometimes land on). God made me a baritone. I have a reasonable high range, and a reasonable low range. Nobody should ever confuse me for a bass, and no one would ever be guilty of calling me a tenor. I'm just right there in the middle.

This was highlighted for me especially today at lunch while I was busy learning Jimmy Eat World songs and quickly realizing that I can't sing them in the original key. Dammit! I mean, for maybe 90% of the song I'm totally fine. But that isn't gonna get it done, is it?

Although, there's some consolation (mixed blessing?) knowing that I have zero plans to gig again anytime soon. So, it's really just me that will know that I can or can't sing them. So yeah, strike this entire entry! I spent my lunch today rocking out to Jimmy Eat World songs and I sound unbelievably awesome on every word!!!
