Best. Night. Ever.

OK, maybe not *ever,* but it was still a pretty great evening.

The Great Lakes Folk Festival started this evening, and since we're so close to downtown East Lansing, Drew and I wandered around and made the most of it. They've been setting up the stages and some tents for a couple of days now and we checked them out walking home yesterday. Tonight was full-on fun times, though. Seaves had a furlough day today, so we all met at the school as usual and we all walked home to drop off stuff and get some rain gear (forecast had storms, and it was pretty cloudy but only a few light sprinkles were felt).

Seaves stayed back to finish working on something and Drew hopped in the stroller and we headed down to Georgio's for pizza. We got the pizza and headed over to one of the stages where we sat, ate pizza, and listened to music. Drew was so good, and he ate his pizza with one hand while resting his other hand on my leg, just sitting there together, having a great time. I was so happy that I just sat there with a big grin on my face and when people would look at us and smile it was all I could do to stop my heart from jumping out of my chest with The Happy.

We saw three bands. One was a western swing band from Austin, TX, with a chick singer/guitarist, a double-bass, and a violin. They were great. The second one was a latino band under the tent across from Harpers, and they had a ton of people out dancing, mostly kids and their parents, which was fine with me. Drew and I took a spin. The third band was an all female group playing traditional Cajun songs. It was in Valley Court park on the big stage and we stood behind the sound board so there was a lot of room to dance around.

Oh! and we got ice cream cookie sandwiches from Melting Moments on the walk from the 2nd stage to Valley Court park.

There were *lots* of kids and Drew was in hog heaven dancing around and looking at other children and laughing and singing and telling me things about things. He's in a stage where he gets very excited about saying something and he'll start with three or four, "Hey...hey! Hey! Hey! Daddy! ummm...." and then he's lost it for a second, but then comes back strong with a totally random factoid or suggestion for an activity. It's hilarious and awesome.

Anyway, we stayed out way past Drew's regular bedtime routine so it will be interesting how the night goes and how the morning winds up. Generally if he goes to bed later he wakes up earlier (why is that?!?) so I might be up at 5:45 or something ridiculous like that.

The Great Lakes Folk Festival runs through Sunday, so we're bound to have more fun this weekend. Great times!

good times, great lakes great times, drew, music, awesome
