I've had a pretty nice celebration of my birthday this year. Starting with last night's dinner out at Dusty's Cellar, where I indulged in a flight of wine, a baby greens salad with some delicious dressing and pistacios, a rack of lamb with wild rice and steamed vegetables, a piece of chocolate cake that might have been bigger than my head, and some delicious coffee drink that I think had Bailey's, Kahluha, and Frangelico. And whipped cream. Soooo good.
Today at work was very busy. We are interviewing for the Registrar's position and today was the fourth candidate of five that we're bringing to campus. So it was busy with hosting and making sure the guy felt comfortable (which he didn't because the airline lost his luggage so he spent the day in the clothes he traveled to campus in: jeans and a Hawaiian shirt. Note to self: when flying for a big interview, travel in something you'd feel comfortable interviewing in, just in case.) I felt bad for him because of the luggage thing, I think he was off his game in the morning because of it.
I'm a little overwhelmed with all of the birthday wishes that I received today. My inbox was constantly being peppered with Facebook updates from people writing on my wall. It was a really fun day to check e-mail, that's for sure. Thanks to everyone who wrote. I really appreciate it.
Drew and I walked home from school today because Seaves got hung up at work for a while. It was raining, so I put him up on my shoulders and we carried the umbrella. He was really thrilled with the umbrella and asked questions about it almost all the way home. And we saw a few college kids walking with umbrellas and Drew counted them and told everyone within earshot that he had an umbrella and that it was used for keeping the rain off of us. Totally cute.
Tonight we had pulled pork sandwiches and sweet potato fries and then we opened presents and ate rice krispy treats (my requested birthday cake for this year). Drew helped unwrap presents. Yay! Gnomes!
Drew was really good all day today. At about 6:15 this morning he woke up and Claire brought him in and he said happy birthday to me, and when I picked him up from school today that was the first thing he said to me, too. It's just the cutest thing ever to hear him say it.
