I presented two back-to-back sessions this morning and they both went really well. I was very satisfied with the turnout for both (I had been concerned that no one would be there based on the timing of them, first thing in the morning on the last day of the conference).
The first session was on what role the Registrar's Office can play (should play, was my argument) with relation to standing university policy and curriculum committees. I co-presented with the Associate Provost for Enrollment Services, so that was fun. They expected around 30 people at the session and there were almost 75, including two of the candidates for the Registrar position at MSU (one of whom we've already interviewed). Our topic hasn't really been addressed in the way that we went at it, and I think that's one of the reasons it was so well attended. I think Dr. Pace's session on the Registrar's Office of the Future approached it without really advocating one way or another about engaging with the committees. I think we'll try to spin it off into something else, too, maybe an article for College & University Journal.
The Degree Audit presentation was a repeat from last year's session in Orlando so it was mostly an autopilot situation there. But it was still fun to talk about and even more satisfying to really highlight how far we've come in the past year.
After that I came back to the hotel, checked out, stored my luggage and went to lunch with Kasi from Minnesota at a place called "Yolk" which came highly recommended from Irfan and his wife. We were not disappointed. I had the cinnamon roll french toast. It was literally a gigantic cinnamon roll sliced in thirds horizontally, dunked in batter, fried up and thrown on a plate. The top part still had the cinnamon roll icing on it. DELICIOUS. I am now in a sugar coma, though. But yeah, if you're ever in Chicago and find yourself at about 1000 S. Michigan...check it out. Breakfast and Lunch only, though, I think. Let me reiterate: delicious.
And Kasi is lovely and really fun to hang out with. It would have been fun if Ingrid had stuck around another day, but she flew out yesterday afternoon after her presentation (which also went really well and was well-attended).
I'm about to head out to the train station in a few minutes to ride back to East Lansing. Apparently I'm riding coach and everyone else from MSU is riding Business Class. Bigger seats and more legroom or something like that. Why didn't anybody tell me I could that?
Drew has been sick this whole week while I've been gone and I'm not sure if he's going to school tomorrow or not. I hope he feels better, but it still might be nice to spend tomorrow at home with him. If he still has a fever today he's not allowed to go to school tomorrow, even if he's better, so I might be chillin' at the homestead with him.
Oh Internets, how I've missed you.
aacrao,
good times,
