"The [one] who
does not read good books has no advantage over the [one] who cannot read them."
- Mark Twain
I can't imagine not reading a book for an entire year. I don't get to read as much as I'd like to anymore, but I've still torn through at least 5 books in the past 6 months. I think most of my friends still read for pleasure, as well. Maybe that's one of the reasons they're my friends...not because they read but because we have that in common.
Shit, y'all. ZERO books in a year? No wonder America is in the shitter.
One book that I checked out from the library and didn't make it through the preface was "
The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable" mostly because the author insisted on saying that "no one could have anticipated or predicted the attacks of September 11, 2001." Which is outright bullshit and there are intelligence experts that were doing *exactly that* right up until the first plane hit the first tower. So that author lost pretty much all credibility for me and the rest of his message was lost on me. So I didn't read it.
The book that I'm devouring currently is called Gates of Fire, and it's historical fiction about the battle of Thermopylae--yes, the same story as the movie "300," but told with actual historical accuracies. Quite the concept. Anyway, my Dad recommended it and it is amazing (I'm about half way through). In fact, I brought it with me to work today to read at lunchtime.
Which is now.
