Doug, your post really touched us. Thus, instead of spending a ridiculous amount on a fancy New Year's outing, Erin and I have decided to change our plans and play it a little more low key. With that extra New Year's money we have made a donation to Catholic Relief Services' efforts in Southeast Asia with the hope that some other family (maybe even a pair of newlyweds like us) might have shelter or food or water amidst such tragedy. Thank you for your kind heart and for putting life into perspective.

hey doug, thanks for posting that. i became aware (from a co-worker) this morning of a great site i found very helpful: www.networkforgood.org which is a database of aid/relief/humanitarian organizations. i like it because it lists all the company specs and financial information, so you know it is certifiable and legit. also, it makes donating really easy. i donated through americares already today.
