I've just been watching Loose Women. Usually I quite enjoy that show (for all my sins). But the topic of animal rights came up today. It's not the first time I've seen stuff related to this in the media this week, and it's really starting to annoy me. Everywhere I've seen this topic, they're making animal rights protestors/activists out as terrorists. I can assure u that 99% of the time people who care about animal rights ARENT terrorists or violent. It is infact by their nature to be kind and compassionate, hence the whole NOT HURTING ANIMALS thing.
Hmm anyway, I think recent coverage of this topic prooves 2 points, firstly how much of an impact bad press about certain organisations can have on the views of the general public. A FEW people associated with animals rights view points do vandalism (exagerated through the current idea of us all living in fear and anxiety etc. to being called TERRORISM) and then suddenly ALL people who dont support the idea of killing animals in order to obtain something (whether it be medical or cosmetic) ARE these evil vandals/terrorists and the whole idea of supporting animals as equals becomes a cruel one.
I also think people that do hold this view point also prove how well terrorism works. I hate to say it. But people act as if there's no such thing as a peaceful animal rights protest, when in fact they're just being ignored/not listened to, thus proving that drastic measures such as 'terrorism' are the only things they listen to. It's a shame.
Anyway, it annoyed me. I can sort of see how some people may support animal testing for medical break-throughs or whatever, but to justify it for purely cosmetic purposes, well i cant even begin to understand such a person's priorities. I think they really need to have a look at what's important in this world.
