As a California transplant, I am so confused by the weather here. Where I come from, you wake up in the morning and you can pretty much tell how warm it's going to be: Sunny: 70's, Cloudy: 60's, Dark Cloudy: 50's, Hazy sun: 80's. But here, you wake up in March, it's super sunny, you go outside and it's 40 degrees! or worse, 30! You go out in July, it's Dark Cloudy and 90 degrees!
So I've come to depend heavily on the weather channel
website. It's often somewhat off, but what I've recently discovered is their
A variety of weather factors are used to calculate the Spectator Index, including temperature, probability of precipitation, humidity, wind speed, and cloud cover. The best index values result from shirt-sleeve temperatures, minimal chances of precipitation, low humidity, light winds, and fair skies. Conversely, cold and stormy conditions will result in the lowest Spectator Index values, when a bit of extra gear may be required to maximize comfort level in the stands.
The Spectator Index is updated several times a day. Either a general index value to broadly describe a given day, or a specific index value to describe a given hour, is presented.
The scale for our Spectator Index is: Excellent (10), Very Good (9, 8), Good (7, 6), Fair (5, 4), Poor (3,2), Very Poor (1)
The Spectator Index provides one overall forecast for how comfortable conditions will be while attending your favorite outdoor pastimes, or on your way to indoor venues.
Using this genius method, I have decided to apply a "Spectator Index" to my outings with friends. A variety of factors will be used to calculate MY Spectator Index, including temperature, probability of fornication, intoxication level, drink cost: alcohol strength ratio, next-day quotability, and attractiveness of general company. The best index values result from short-skirt temperatures, definite chances of copulation, low levels of out of pocket spending, light winds, and fair intoxication. Conversely, cold and stormy conditions will result in the lowest Spectator Index values, when a bit of extra alcohol may be required to maximize comfort level (see also: "drink til this is fun" and/or "drink til this doesn't suck").
The Spectator Index will be updated several times a day. Either a general index value to broadly describe a given companion, or a specific index value to describe a given hour, is presented.
The scale for our Spectator Index is: Tom Brady/Awesome (10), Eli Manning/Very Good (9, 8), Josh Jackson/Good (7, 6), Jack Johnson/Rather be sleeping (5, 4), Matt Lauer/Rather be watching the OC (3,2), Adam Schenk/Ouch (1).
