Update after watching aforementioned programme:
Well. I would defy anyone to witness what I have just witnessed and not fall totally in love with Monkey. He looked good. He sounded good. The man has a heart of pure gold.
Exhibit A:
Neil (our interrogator du jour): Joe, you're unique.
Joe (sitting in his new kitchen and slurping herbal tea): Really? (Looks totally amazed and blushing godammit) In what way?
Exhibit B:
Joe used to work on his daddy's market stall. Fruit stall to be precise. Not sure if that should be as funny and cute as it was, but still.
Exhibit the last as there are too many examples to quote, really. But this is the killer evidence:
Joe has two bulldogs, so we see him strolling around the garden with his pups in tow. Binny, the girl-dog, is five years old, slightly over weight ("middle-age spread", laughs Joe softly as he bends down to stroke her belly) and calm and just wants to be at Joe's side ALL THE TIME. She's called BInny cos when she was a puppy she had her head in the bins all the time. Bless.
Then there's Hugo, who is Binny's son, and clearly rather bonkers. "She had ten puppies," said Joe gently. "But two died at birth, leaving eight." He stares at Hugo, his eyes full of love. "And we kept him cos he was the best looking one. Believe it or not....."
See I've always loved Joe Cole. But for the last thirty minutes his essential good-nature and honesty had me close to tears. Well done Joey. What a lovely human being you are.
