This kind of legislation passed in MN. Although I was and am completely against it, it hasn't really been a big deal. The bars and restaurants are still busy and even the bars and restaurants that were complaining have stopped. Smoking hasn't been completely banned, though. Places that make something like a 75% profit on alcohol sales can still allow smoking. Not that I'm saying this kind of legislation is a good thing ... I do admit that I like the comfort and convenience ... but in all of history lessons I've ever taken, I still haven't figured out where people get the idea this is what the government is for.
My husband and I are in a disagreement because the MN legislature is talking about making it illegal for protestors to protest within 1000 feet of a funeral. (I don't know if you've heard about the religious fanatics who are protesting at army/marine/navy funerals?) I just think this is so wrong, rude, disrespectful, and so on. I guess supporting this goes against a lot of what I believe, but I just can't wrap my finger around thinking it isn't a good idea.
