I can't beleive it i'm makig up for lost time with 3 posts in less than a day! As it looks now I'll probibally be off most of the day tomorrow as well. I've got some things I need to do to the truck tomorrow if I'm off so I'll have that to do.
This weekend I was reading the Appalachian Voice while we were eating at Woodlands, and they had a realy great article about Hugh Morton, whom we lost a couple weeks ago. For those of you that don't know Hugh was responsible for protecting Grandfather Mountain, and he was a very talented photographer. Hugh is probibally best known for his photography of Grandfather and the surrounding area. If you've seen a Boone phone book in the last decade you've probibally seen his work. He already has a great book out called Hugh Morton's North Carolina, and I am anxiously awaiting the release of the sequil to it this fall. This weekend being in the heart of the country that he captured made me stop and think and reflect on just how great the area is and makes me wish I was there more than I am. With that said We'll miss you Hugh!
I'm thinking the next few weekends will probibally find me in the mountains as long as I'm not working. I just feel the need to get out and go take in some nature since I havn't had a chance in a while. I'm also trying to work on getting a portfolio together so that I can try to become an assignment writer/photographer for Our State and Blue Ridge Country. I've been reading a lot in Photographer's Marketplace lately, and I'm trying to come up with a few places where I can get some things published. They may not pay great big sums of money, but it would be a way to get some return back on some of my investment that I've got in equipment and such, even though I bought it mainly because I love to do it. If I were able to turn photography into a full time job I'd love it, but that would take some time to get to where I could live off what I made.
Ultimately I'd love to be able to go to the middle of nowhere in the mountains and work out of my house and cover things going on all over. Who knows it could happen.... one day. After all lots of people seem to like my work since every time I post to one of the forums that I submit to I get the header for the site for the day. I need to work on getting a portfolio together and a website going, but that may have to wait till things slow down in the fall and I have some free time.
