I like Adaptation. He can do good work. Hell, he can even carry a good film at times. Raising Arizona. Leaving Las Vegas. Bringing Out the Dead. Wild at Heart. Even Moonstruck. He's done some great stuff, and worked with some great filmmakers. Still, we have to compare this to Snake Eyes and the yearly "OMG Nick Cage has premonitions" movie that seems his forte anymore.
I have a lot of movies on the "You haven't seen that" list. I forgot to mention The Godfather.
Have I mentioned The Shining?? I've seen pieces of it over the years, probably enough to have actually seen the picture, but I've never sat and watched it.
Yea, I know. The lady is constantly poking at me for never seeing The Shining because I had a period of getting into the Italian Horror stuff, and I really like Coppola, so I'm not sure what's wrong with me other than I just need to watch it.
BTW, Tuesdays and Thursdays this month on TCM, they're highlighting films about Native Americans and their presence in film. Like always, I forget, so I missed the chunk of what's on tonight, which I guess is about non-Indians in Indian roles.
That's what they're doing. Cool! I noticed a lot of John Wayne on Tuesday, and I'm taping Apache tonight. Trufax: my Dad was actually an extra in Makenna's Gold. He was an extra playing a random Indian in a random scene. According to family lore, they had to stop shooting because they noticed he was wearing socks. Could be a Big Fish moment, but I still like the story.
It's a strange film when it's Nick Cage that holds it together.
Ha! Adaptation is (uncharacteristically) really good though.
