I read a theory once that best picture means nothing anymore; it goes to something traditionally Hollywood (like the horribly overblown melodrama Million Dollar Baby). To see the true best movie(s) of the year, look at the screenplay categories. Can anyone argue with that tonight? I didn't agree with any of the winners, in all honesty, except for those two. I think time will tell and Million Dollar Baby will replace Midnight Cowboy as the worst film to ever win Best Pic, Hilary Swank's one-note performance right beside it. Morgan Freeman, however, finally won his Oscar for The Shawshank Redemption, and no one can fault him that Oscar. Cate Blanchett... really? Better than Sophie Okenedo, Virginia Madsen and Natalie Portman? She sounded and looked just like Katharine Hepburn and... yeah, basically that's about it. I know everyone wants to see Hepburn win another Oscar, but this wasn't the way to go about it. Jamie Foxx- eh. I haven't seen the movie but there's no way it lives up to the hype. Good thing Ray Charles just died, or he'd be short on Oscar. Scorsese was robbed- he deserved it not only for a body of work, but also for the most well-directed (that was nominated) picture of the year. Clint Eastwood is just further proof that "actors" (and I use the term loosely) should not direct.
Did I mention I hated Million Dollar Baby?
