On Melting. And Falling In And Out of Love. / Werder Bremen season check-up
On Melzer
Melzer won his first US Open match last nite. Against some apparently very slutty hot piece from Russia (thanks to Taversham for pointing that out to me). Eventually. For a very. Very. Long time it looked like a classic Melzer game, iykwim, melting away half way through and not being able to convert those break chances to then throw away his serves, giving them away freely, like candy on a float.
Here is what he had to say about that mess:
"It was the 95-degree heat."

I thought indeed he was melting away in sets 3 & 4. :) He is SUCH a pussy!
Needs to keep his cool - or else it's over...
Anyhooos. He made it. Despite serving abdominably. Love-of-his-life and partner-in-crime Petzsche was on to a succesful start as well (after weeks and weeks of loosing his first round games). He did not melt away or had an epic melt-down, though. Straight game. Petzsche = less pussy than Melzer :p

EDIT: Liam Boyce, a nineteen-year old Irish lad (*sorry, no pics to be found* EDIT: pic below), is going to join Werder as well. Mostly the second team. Striking is his job and Cliftonville (or whereever) used to be his team.
A rather excited young fellow, I have to say! Endowed with all the right talents ;)
OUT (no worries. only for a season-long loan!):
He renewed his contract AND went to play for Racing Santander (best club name ever) on a season-long loan. To come back better and improved, I think. A very good solution, for if he recovers and either Almeida or Pizz might slack or have the sicks he'll be welcomed - I mean, he is anyway. He is loved by just about everyone on the team - despite performance problems. He is a very good, loyal player that should deserve continued support by WB and fans. It has been pointed out million times before, but it was his hammer against Sampdoria that saved WB's sorry-asses and flooded KATS empty accounts with 15 Million Euro! And it was the SECOND time he pulled that. So he more than cashed in his expenses ;) Apart from this silly equation, I think he deserves respect, for his bad phase somewhat collided with a change in WB's line-up. So gaining game practice (and some sun) over in Spain whilst renewing the contract with WB is having the best of two worlds.
Peter works for Hertha BSC now - only on a short term contract. And rather succesful, judging from last nites game. Beautiful assist. He can come back in case Hertha stays second League. But if they go up, he will stay with them. Hmmm, I do wish they would be promoted back into Buli - now that they have a REAL coach and a nice team. Bit of a double-bind here for me.
Timo Perthel, for the record, is gaining practice over in beloved, neurotic Austria, for Sturm Graz.
