Sounds like my reaction to Sindbad (I will never understand why it's written that way... in Arabic, it's pronounced Sindibad).
White people! SO many white people! And they didn't even look remotely Middle Eastern, Arab, or Persian or... whatever they were trying to portray.
Blue-eyed white people? I'll forgive white people, but blue-eyed white people? xD;
It was so bizzare, I actually laughed at it in utter bewilderment!
By the way, is the "a" in your usernames (the new one and the old Jafaria one) a stand-in for the Arabic feminine tah? If it is- which I suspect- that's very clever of you! ♥
Although, sharira would actually be more closely rendered as sherrira, but that's minor and nitpicky.
I like that you recognize the gender-specific nuances of the language, makes this Arab happy. x3 Best of luck on your studies!
I remember playing Prince of Persia... the original, but mainly the newer 3D game. The random Arabic letters on the blocks cracked me up.
ALSO, I HAD NO IDEA ANYBODY REMEMBERED BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS. I loved that movie so dang much! ♥ ♥ ♥ The Swan Princess is one of my absolute favourites too.
Yeah, and that's actually almost worse (if you're talking about the new animated Sinbad), because there's even less excuse for DRAWING an allegedly Middle Eastern person with blue eyes than there is for CASTING one.
My studies are actually over, I graduated in May. I just fail at updating my profile. I'm also so much less of a Jafar fangirl now.
I haven't seen it either, but I've heard that it does more with Greek mythology than the actual Arabian Nights story. Although the character designs I've seen actually do look plausibly Mediterranean, so I don't know why that was what I thought of.
