Title: Modern Christmas Classics
Notes: Modern is a bit relative so I hope you like these. Please let me know if you'd like a zip file with the mp3's and I can get them uploaded somewhere.
I've heard quite a few versions of the first song, and it's one that just loves to be played loud. I love Jewel and I hope you enjoy her rendition of it.
1.Joy to the World - Jewel
joy to the world!
Some version of the next track always makes it onto my Christmas playlist. This version is new to me too.
2. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas - Christina Aguilera
Oh yeah, mmm
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on your troubles will be out of sight, yeah
What would be Christmas without the Grinch trying to steal it? I love this song and this version is quite fun.
3. You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch - Glee Cast
All I need is a reindeer!
So he took his dog Max, and he took some black thread,
And he tied a big horn on the top of his head.
Annie Lennox is another one of my favorites. She's probably more classic rock these days but I remember when she first came on the scene.
4. The First Noel - Annie Lennox
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the East beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
I don't often hear this song on the radio/playlists but I've always liked it.
5. A New York Christmas - Rob Thomas
Yeah, I'm sending you a Merry New York Christmas
And a prayer for peace on earth within our time
Hear the sidewalk Angels echo, "Halleluja"
We understand them, now more than ever
One of my all-time favorite Christmas songs and I noticed in your profile that you've listed Josh Groban as an interest, so hopefully I was able to match you up with at least one song you like.
6. The Christmas Song - Josh Groban
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos
Enya has a wonderful voice for this song.
7. O Come, O Come Emmanuel - Enya
Rejoice! Rejoice! O Israel
to you shall come Emmanuel.
A fun version of Do They Know It's Christmas. Again, not sure if the Barenaked Ladies are too old to be called modern.
8. Do They Know It's Christmas? - The Barenaked Ladies
It's Christmastime; there's no need to be afraid
At Christmastime, we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmastime
But say a prayer and pray for the other ones
At Christmastime
I like to get a few new Christmas songs each year, and this was one of the ones treated myself too.
9. Please Come Home for Christmas (Bells Will Be Ringing) - Kelly Clarkson
Friends and relations send salutations
Just as sure as the stars shine above
This is Christmas, Christmas my dear
The time of year to be with the one that you love
