politics... and shit...

May 10, 2007 21:57

well, interesting day in politics! Blair FINALLY made the announcement we have all been waiting for. And frankly, I was not impressed with his speech.

Is it really enough that he, hand on heart, only ever did what he thought was right? I'm not sure it is. Was it enough at Nuremberg that the Nazi's pleaded that they only did what they were told? A harsh comparison, maybe... but this is a man who came crawling to Parliament asking for support for this war, and then declined to talk about the war and the policy moving forwards.

Maybe I'm expecting too much wanting some sort of apology... but an admission that, despite him thinking he was right, Iraq was a fucking disaster would be nice. Because he was wrong.

No, I do not think it was enough that he only did what he thought was right.  I do not believe he always acted in the interests of his country. How sad that we will hear little more from this man -  and what do we have for a farewell speech? We have a man begging for forgiveness and understanding from the country he served by doing what the country begged him not to.

I supported the war - I have not supported his conduct. His lies.

Can we expect more from a man then for him to do what he thought was right?

I believe we can... we can expect a man to admit when he was wrong.
