Focusing on What I Have

Nov 26, 2009 00:59

A lot of people I know have been trying to do a "Thing I'm Thankful For" every day this month. It's a good exercise and I really should do this every day, Thanksgiving notwithstanding. But clearly I can't be relied on to do that, at least, not in a written public way. So I'll try to make up for the last month...also going to try to restrict myself to the past year, outside of some of the obvious, continuous stuff.

(in no particular order - you all know stream of consciousness is my specialty)

1) That I've been able to be unemployed without becoming destitute, when so many have.
2) Having two loving, supportive parents (who also often call you only so you can hear over the phone a certain part of a movie that all of you love).
3) Having two amazing brothers, and still having the privilege of being able to talk whenever with one of them.
4) Having a husband that not only tolerates my sometimes excessive weirdness, but often actively encourages it.
5) Being able to count so many incredible (interesting, intelligent, funny, kind) people as my friends.
6) Managing to graduate law school (seriously, never again...).
7) Living in Pittsburgh again (just fits me like a glove).
8) Having such a positive and supportive relationship with my in-laws.
9) Being generally healthy (but having decent health insurance again anyway).
10) Being nearly broke and still getting to travel a little bit.
11) Living down the street from a really good library (yay books!).
12) Living with a cat again (regardless of drives-me-crazy rant last entry).
13) Our apartment (it rocks my socks).
14) Reading as much as I do and still finding new books, authors, perspectives that thrill me.
15) My car still runs.
16) Finally being back in a hockey town.
17) Letters from my mom (written, mailed correspondence FTW).
18) Keeping my sense of humor most of the time.
19) Getting the opportunities that I have this year.
20) Quiet moments to myself (or myself and nature, myself and God).
21) Not seeing snow yet and it being late November.
22) Long-term student loan repayment schedules (I'd be in so much trouble otherwise).
23) Living in U.S. (still better than most other options).
24) Having so many people take time out of their own lives to show concern for mine.
25) Any new understanding I've gained in a year.

And one to grow on for Turkey Day:

26) In honor of her birthday (Tuesday), I am thankful for the special bond I have with my grandmother. I miss her all the time, but grateful for having such an amazing person to influence the person I have become.
