Busy-ish Weekend
The past couple of days have been full of awesome reconnecting, albeit of the brief variety. I got to talk to ladyofshadow on the phone on Friday, and got to see margotanne at brunch today. Actually, brunch was very well attended (no doubt because of a Margot Sighting), with a final headcount of seven. Good times all around.
Got to see Inglourious Basterds last night, which was a lot of fun in that of ultra-violent Tarantino kind of way. Though, it really wasn't super violent, or at least not the sustained violence of say, Reservoir Dogs. Loved the characters, and was amused by the no-holds-bar revenge fantasy alternate history route. As someone pointed out, this was a more honest approach than anything Oliver Stone's ever done via historical movies. And again, as I said about Valkyrie, it's hard to go wrong with a good old Nazis killing movie. It beat the pants off The Time Traveler's Wife at any rate.
Other than that, reading a lot lately and reminding myself that I shouldn't go so long between Margaret Atwood novels. I enjoy every one I read, but it seems to take me a long time to get back to her after each one. Currently working on some Balzac, so-so so far.
