I'm guessing it's okay to come out now without being loaded down with Kevlar? Also, in case you were curious, Kevlar doesn't help when a door slams shut on your hand ( Read more... )

No one's blaming anyone else, Sam. Don't worry about it.

And uh... The salt didn't work, if that's any help in your research.

It's just better that people know where these things come from. If there's any kind of pattern, it's best to find out about it quickly.

Thanks. And sorry about that. Hope the misinformation didn't get you hurt.

No, it's alright. The salt did get in some of my wounds, but that was more my fault than the salt's. Hurt like crazy, but it was a good try.

So these things have happened to you before, in your world?

Ouch. Yeah, salt in the wound's never pretty, literally or figuratively.

Yeah, something like this. Risks of the trade, and all.

A lot of people suggested the salt though. There was this one guy, Castiel... He was kind of strange. Kept talking about the apocalypse, and angels, and the Sword of Lucifer, of all things. He suggested iron too, just like you...

Must be an exciting life, but I think I'd get tired of it eventually.

Castiel, huh? He claims he knows me, but he's from a different... time stream or something. He's probably a hunter, too, though I don't know anything about angels or this Sword of Lucifer.

I did get tired of it, but it's not really the sort of life you can just walk away from.

So you meet him later on? That must be frustrating.

The sort of life you can walk away from... I know what you mean. You're good at it, though.

Apparently. Another girl claims that the same deal's going on, but it seems like she's going to be willing to explain things to me.

I'm decent, I guess. Though enough's happened for me to know I should commisserate with anyone who can't just pick up and start something new.

How did all that hunting business start, anyway? Kind of... on a whim?

Not exactly. More like a revenge plot that got too out of hand.

In the simplest terms, my mom was killed by a demon and Dad got a little... obssessive over finding this demon.

Oh! [Helena suddenly feels too much like she's prying.] I hope you caught whoever that demon was...

Yeah, we did. Still, once you're in the fight, you can't just walk out. It's not fair to the kids who might lose their moms tomorrow, you know.

That's very... brave of you, Sam. And kind, too. You and your brother.

Sometimes I wonder if it's bravery or just stubborn pigheadedness. Still... thanks, Helena.
