Though the waterfall wasn't that far away from the hut John shared with the boys (and now Jess, too), he took his time returning.
Sharon's confession was weighing heavily on his mind, unsurprisingly. It was the last thing in the world he'd ever expected to hear from her. But he had and now everything had been turned upside-down and rightside-up all at once.
He was too old for this.
There was that, and there was also the fact that John didn't think he was the sort of guy who deserved second chances -- and definitely not two. He'd crawled out of Hell and ended up on this island with Sam and Dean, was living when he ought to still be dead and continually torn apart for eternity. And now he was apparently going to get another chance to do the fatherhood thing and maybe not screw up so much?
It wasn't right.
But that didn't mean it sure as hell wasn't going to happen all the same.
Towel slung around his neck, John slowly pushed the door of the hut open. He dreaded telling Sam and Dean but John owed it to them to do it -- and now.
