In Which Uriel Tries to Take Care of Business

He knew that Avnas would sense him coming. It was a side effect of being of the same stock -- you knew when the other was close, the same way a demon knew humans. It was instinctive, something you couldn't forget. But as far as he was concerned, that was not a relevant matter. What was relevant was that Avnas was a weak spot -- the weakest link in the chain of demonic authority. He did not know what Vassago wanted her for, nor did he care.

Whatever it was, she wasn't going to get it. At least not if Uriel could help it.

He wasn't acting on orders directly -- that was where things got complicated. But he had no intention of hurting any of the mud monkeys that happened to be present in the house -- he would even tone down the light for one of the brothers, as a courtesy. He was focused on the mission at hand, which, at the moment, was to take down the demon Avnas before she could recover and be reunited with Alloces. Because once that happened, no one would be able to stop them. That wasn't something that Uriel was willing to take lightly -- not in the slightest.

He set down a few yards away from the house, giving her ample time to give them some kind of warning, and slowly started walking towards it. This should be easy.

Amy had been sitting on the kitchen floor with Jinx, petting him gently as she did. But as soon as she felt Uriel set down her head shot up and cold fear ran through her. Almost as soon as it happened, she scrambled to her feet, making a beeline for the stairs, but barely having the time to get herself upright, just trying to run away as far and as fast as she possibly can.

"No!" she shouted as she went, fear evident in her words as she followed the line of the stairs towards the attic. "No, no, no, no."
