The Lonely Back Roads

Nov 03, 2008 17:42

Nebraska was a quiet state, even with the trouble these days. The back roads were mostly dead now. Few people were brave enough to travel where there weren’t lights every couple of feet. Still, there was one beacon in the dark, Harvelle’s Roadhouse. It still wasn’t the nicest looking place on Earth, though someone had attempted to paint it and fix ( Read more... )

It was late October when Alec eased the Impala into one of the non-parking spaces outside the Roadhouse. He'd found the website. Now he'd found the place.

It wasn't like this was were he had chosen to run to when he'd slipped his leash. It was just that he's needed to run. Just for a while. Maybe a week. But even more than that he needed to hunt. His family, even the demonic parts, may think of him as human, but he knew better. They all acknowledged that he was faster, stronger and had a whole lot of genetic perks. But still. Human.

And sometimes he was. Sometimes he wasn't. Sometimes he was X5 who enjoyed a good hard physical fight. Sometimes he was the great cat that made up large parts of his DNA. That part of him was a predator, who enjoyed a hunt and a kill.

He could only keep the cat caged for so long. And he'd reached his limit. So he'd bolted. Cats didn't ask permission when thay came and went. So Alec just went. He did have the brains to call though and say that he was safe. That, seriously, nothing was wrong and he'd be back in a week. And he's check in.

The quest for room to stretch his legs and a quick hunt with most of the research done had lead him to the Roadhouse. He paused at the door to look around, and get a sniff before stepping inside, Jinx at his side.

(OOC: Your call as to whether Jinx is warded out.)

When she heard the Impala, Jo smiled a little. She hadn't been expecting Sam to visit. Of course she never expected Sam to show up when he did. She dug out a beer for him and set it on the bar.

Her happiness quickly changed when someone definitely not Sam, and practically a carbon copy of Dean walked in with a Hellhound. She grabbed her shotgun and leveled it.

"Who are you?" She demanded. "What do you want?"

Jinx went from amiable to someones worst nightmare in negative point two seconds. He pushed in front of Alec all teeth and anger.

"Whoa!" He was clearly more startled than afraid, though it never paid to dismiss someone pointing a gun. He held one hand out away from his body and slipped the other one through Jinx's collar. It was more of a signal to the dog to hold off more than a restrant. Alec knew he couldn't hold the dog. Not when he didn't even have to stay corporial. "Not looking for trouble lady." He desided to leave it at that for the moment.

"You're driving the Winchester's Impala and wearing the skin of one." And damn if it hadn't shaken her to the core. "You've got five seconds to explain before I blast you."

"Uh, the skin's my own and the car's my dad's?" His eyes shifted, calculating the best way to avoid the scatter pattern of the shot gun. He let go of Jinx just in case she pulled the trigure. Up he decided was the best route of escape. He could lang in the rafters easy and pie.

Jo narrowed her eyes. "Your dad's?" she looked him over. "You're one of Dean's boys?"

He gave her a walleyed look. "If I say yes, will you easy of the trigure or pull it? If you're gonna take a shot at me, let me know and I'll lie like a rug." He pet Jinx's head to get himt o settle a bit. No one needed to die here.

"The Winchesters are always welcome at the Roadhouse." Jo certainly thought he had Dean's sense of humor. She lowered the gun. "You lie to me and I'll kill you myself."

"Lady, I lie to everyone. But I really am Dean's kid. Hard to lie about the freckles." He grinned. Jinx finally stood down once the gun was put up and that got him another good rub behind the ears. Alec made his way over to the bar and took in the cold beer. "I didn't know you knew the family. Guess you were expecting someone else." He looked at the beer funny. "Not to sound like a pain in the ass, but do you have one that's not souped up?"

"Then you must get shot a lot." She countered, used to Dean's attitude and Dean's grin. It was a little unnerving seeing it on another person when Dean was dead. "No, you get what you're served here. If you past the test, you can have a normal one."

"I so do." He looked at the beer and then looked at her. Then rubbed at the back of his neck. "Look, I'll repaint your wards with it . I'll say the Hail Mary in Latin. I'll say Christo as many times as you want with in reason. But I got a rule about ingesting things that glow. It's called 'don't'." He reached out and poured a little into his open palm and held the hand out to her.

Since his skin was steaming and he wasn't screaming in pain, Jo could accept that he wasn't a demon. She took the old beer from him and brought out a normal one. "There you go."

He wiped his hand on his jeans and then took the new beer. "Awesome. Thanks." He shrugged. "What can I say. It's a quirk. You known the family long?"

"Your dad and I go way back." Jo sighed a little. "I'm Jo Harvelle, I don't know if your dad ever mentioned me."

"He didn't, but it was most likly from lack of opportunity." He knew who she was, but there were social rules. "Alec. Winchester. But I guess you knew that last part. The ball of fluff and teeth is Jinx."

Only Alec could call Jinx a ball of fluff and mean it.

"Your dad liked to talk about you." Jo said, then looked down at the Hellhound. "Ball of fluff. Right."
