Ben got to his room and closed the door behind him quietly. The fears were still set deep in his heart, and now he felt he had been a failure because he couldn't even be happy at the fact that his father had come back from the dead to be with them

The place where her family had decided to convene in for Christmas wasn't far from where the old house used to be in Avon, but much more private and out of the way. In fact, it was practically underground, which gave the living room more of an earthy feel from where it was located right next to the kitchen, and was just a warm place to be. Nate and Luke were plopped on the couch with Anna stretched across their laps, lingering somewhere between sleep and awake, with Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer on the television as Anna's phone started to ring.

"That -- sounds kind of terrifying," she admitted, flopping down on her bed and leaning back against the pillows. "Do you know what did it?"

Ben was on his bed now, staring at the ceiling.
"But what's really scaring me is that I can't be happy about this. I mean, I'm happy he's alive, but I just can't feel it."

She hoped she was helping. Especially considering she had a demon sitting in the back of her head going WRONG WRONG WRONG over and over again.

He was curled up in the quilt now. "I don't know what to do."

"Secondly -- you have to figure out what brought him back. Because that will evaluate what kind time you have left."

She tried not caring once. Noah and Gina's deaths had cut her deeper than it was possible for her to admit, and she tried cutting everyone off. It didn't work out so well for her. "It seems easier, but it hurts about ten times worse, for everyone, not just you."

She paused for a minute before running a hand through her hair. "I know it hurts. But if it didn't hurt, how would you know that love was there to begin with?"
Reply
"I'm afraid."
