Hermione Granger, 1 day for outside business

May 06, 2010 00:33

X, after escorting Hermione Granger and Tom Riddle into the office and questioning them very thoroughly, leaves a note for Security.

Hermione attacked Tom because he is Lord Voldemort on her world. He did not see her coming. I do not know if she is okay.

Maybe someone should talk to her. I am not good at it.

A vengeance intern on her lunch break pokes her head through the door to peer down the row of cells.

"Hermione?"

Real friends help you move bodies ... so by that logic, coworkers should at least visit you in prison.

To be quite honest, the cells? Aren't too terribly bad.

They're clean and they are so far from the horrors of Azkaban that she can't complain too much.

"Ava!"

She hadn't been expecting anyone to visit.

Ava makes her way fretfully to Hermione's cell, wondering in an absent way whether she's going to freak out Baby. One way to find out!

"Hey," she says, "what happened? I was totally downstairs when this stuff was going on but somehow I missed it ..."

That's what boy drama'll do to you.

She lets out a breath.

"I broke two out of three rules of this place because ... well, I suppose I thought I could take care of a situation that would erase an entire war in my world."

... yeah, that didn't happen.

"Oh my God," Ava breathes.

"Wow-- Hermione-- that's--"

A pause of hurried calculation.

"Which two rules?"

"Well, there was absolutely no nudity involved," she says.

... yeah. Definitely not.

So ... fill in the blanks?

"Awesome!" Ava says.

Er.

"Wait, so." She frowns. "Was this ... what you were telling me about that one time? The evil guy with the cult?"

She nods.

"I saw him. I mean, he was younger - definitely from the time before he became Lord Voldemort. But I thought if I could do something - anything - I might have the chance to stop the war from evening happening."

Ava's frown deepens.

"Oh, Hermione ..."

It's weird, sometimes.

Everybody she knows is all about ending magical, supernatural, and world-ending wars ... and when she was alive, she basically did her best to start one.

"I know," she says, mistaking Ava's statement for something like a rebuke. "It was really stupid of me to think that I could do it at all."

Do it and get away with it.

"No, no!" Ava says quickly, waving her hands in a nix gesture.

"That's not what I meant. I meant, you know--"

She frowns.

(this is american idol)

"I'm sorry."

"It's all right. It was a bit ridiculous."

She doesn't regret doing it, but if she was going to go up against the Dark Lord himself, she should have had a better plan than Stupefying him.

Not that she's going to be trying anything on him again for a while.

(In fact, she thinks she'd be quite happy to avoid him completely from now on.)

"I didn't exactly think it through. I suppose that was why I was sorted into Gryffindor as opposed to Ravenclaw."

Ava smiles, but without comprehension.

"Uh ..."

Apologetic, "I don't know what that means."

She shakes her head.

"Oh, I'm sorry."

Sometimes she has a bad habit of assuming everyone else knows exactly what she means.

"At my school, there are four houses one can be sorted into, based on the characteristics each student possesses. Gryffindors are known for their wits, bravery and ... oftentimes, their recklessness. Ravenclaws are known for their cleverness."

"Oh!"

She nods, smiling thoughtfully.

"Huh ... well, I guess that's one way to make sure everybody gets along ..."

A beat.

"What's the difference between wits and cleverness?"

"Well, the Gryffindors generally rely a little more on their instinctual smarts. Ravenclaws read, strategize, plan."

That doesn't completely apply to Hermione who is a combination of both. Though this entire attack on Tom Riddle was likely a little more instinct than planning.
