Archie sets up the chairs and fiddles with the coffee pot for a moment before giving up trying to figure out how to use it, and rearranges the desk. These things always make him nervous.

"You're supposed to be being Raph," Mel points out, and for Aeryn's benefit; "if we know about it, we make arrangements to cover. Everyone who's alive has obligations when the door opens. And sometimes it's hard to get back."
A sheepish grin and she rubs the back of her neck. "I should know. I was supposed to take a weekend in Hell, not six months."

"Aye, thank you, Richard. And Aeryn, if you have prior notice to being called away, I'd like to be let know, but if it is an emergency, a note with Bar will suffice. With as much information as possible, if you can."

A nod.
"It might be sudden." If John went for the door, she was going with him. She'd rather not lose her position...but it was essential to protect him; and the most important thing to her.
"It's not in my control." A hard thing for her to admit. "But I have a life here, I don't plan to leave that permanently."

Alanna, who had momentarily let her mind wander to the amount of formula left in the flat and whether or not she should put in an appearance at the palace this evening, sits up straight at the reminder and smacks her forehead.
"Yes," she blurts out. "We were."
Her smile is perhaps not to be trusted.
"I think we will all agree that working together is essential to a successful security force. So, Steph and I had an Idea. A way to get to know each other better, learn new things and perhaps test ourselves. Namely, a ropes course trial in which we traverse physical obstacles and use each other to test our ability to fend off various types of attacks, magical and otherwise."

"That's an interesting idea. I like it. What's a ropes course?"
He has mental images of ship's rigging, but he doubts that's what she means. Add to that Mike's comment about the spandex, and he has no idea what they're talking about.

"Negotiations are under way on the spandex," Steph says, looking to Alanna thoughtfully. And a little wickedly.
She likes spandex.
"We felt it would be a good way to get the team to really bond as a team, you know? So we know how to react in the case of a really dangerous incident. It's always good to know your team members." She gives the new hires a big, shiny trust-us! sort of grin.

"What's the protocol for a leave of absence? If someone has to exit the bar quite suddenly?"

She'd never insult anyone like that.

"I may be leaving for a little while," he says. "I have a few things to take care of at home."

"Just leave me a note of some sort, and everything will be fine. I certainly can't fault people for taking care of things in your homes."
