MEETING!

Jun 18, 2007 02:58

Archie sets up the chairs and fiddles with the coffee pot for a moment before giving up trying to figure out how to use it, and rearranges the desk. These things always make him nervous.

"You've all read Mel's note about Iniry Forge, and her situation. We've agreed that such a matter shouldn't be handled by one person alone, so we would like to take all of your opinions into consideration.

Mel clears her throat before anyone else can weigh in, and gives:

"I found her backing away having dropped the gun, with a knife wound in her stomach. I'd stake, well, stuff on it being long-time-coming self defence. I've spoken to friends of hers who say he's been beating on her for a while, but she didn't come to us. Can't find a single friend of his in the bar."

A beat, and she rubs the back of her neck.

"I want her out as soon as we can."

"I don't think we can let her out immediately," says Alanna, who would really be perfectly content to do just that. She agrees with Mel's assessment. "As much for her own protection as anything, even if friends of his are impossible to find. You never know how some of our more volatile patrons might react to news of a murder. And self-defense or not, the fact remains that we have a dead body on our hands, and I don't want anyone saying there's no punishment for that."

She frowns.

"That said, she was very obviously injured. Maybe a week?" she suggests. "And I feel it should be noted that he was already dead."

Alanna looks to Mel for confirmation.

"He was," Mel confirms obediently, and glances at the one cell with blacked out walls, which should anyone investigate, would prove to be very cold to the touch.

"She killed him the first time as well."

Steph just sits quietly for this one. There's a very thick black line in Steph's head, and people who kill people are on the other side of it from Good Guys.

...the only problem is, she sort of wants to agree with Mel, because people who try to kill people are also on the other side.

Let's let the girl quietly struggle with the endless Batman dilemma for a bit, shall we?

Aeryn folded her arms, shoulders tight, expression unsure. There always had to be a punishment and while a week didn't seem very long, in her eyes...the bastard deserved everything he got.

She remembered her only encounter with Inyri. Her encounter with Zekka had been much less revealing.

"Inyri isn't a strong woman, from what I could see. I don't believe she could intend to harm someone seriously, plan it, and execute it."

Beat.

"Thyne came to me saying he wanted to be punished for his crimes." She paused, unsure of what to add to that. "I put him in the cells."

"The entire situation has been fairly long term," Sikozu confirms. "I recall celling Wes Janson months ago for an altercation with Thyne. I had a feeling Thyne was the instigator, but he hadn't done anything at the time I could bring him in on." She frowns.

"Self-defense would not surprise me."

"Yeah," Mel said bluntly. "By him. We weren't there to stop him from hurting her."

"His first time in, he had a knife to her throat", Sharpe speaks up. "I arrested him for it. And Janson, for taking revenge after I warned him."

He also broke Zekka's wrist, but he doesn't feel the need to mention that.

"Can I kill him?"

Worth a try, isn't it?

Archie sighs.

"As much as I dislike the situation entirely, you are all correct on your points. It has been going on for some time, I just had no idea how long, or how severe it had gotten. Simply put, we can not be everywhere and see anything, and sometimes we just can't help people unless they come and ask for it. We can't let her off entirely, she broke one of the big rules, and we need to enforce those without exception

"She's not a fighter." Pointed out quietly, with little or no judgement. The suggestion behind it is that Inyri wouldn't fight back, or ask someone else to fight on her behalf, unless it became unbearable.

"Wes tried his best to protect her. So did we. She's had to learn a hard lesson.

"Perhaps the hardest," Alanna agrees, ruefully. "So. It becomes a matter of how long we keep her in."

She frowns. No matter what they decide, someone is going to have something to say about their choice.

"You did mention that she was injured, before she managed to kill him?" Svava looks over to Mel.

"If she is, we could keep her here until she's recovered. For her own safety as well, in part." She nods to Alanna. "Its easy enough to have one of the doctors check on her, or even someone to heal her if her recovery will take longer than we think she should be in here for."
