Wellard looks... Well, 'prognosis good', even if it has only been a few days. Much better doctoring this time around, it can certainly be said.

When he is awake and focused, he has had The Scarlet Pimpernel to read, as a gift from Amy. When he has still not been thinking over quite a few other things.

Quite a few other things.

"Feeling better, lad?"

It's good to see, and so he smiles.

Wellard looks up, and gives Sharpe a nod. "I do think so, sir. Still rather seems the best not to move much."

"Probably, aye. Until the doctor says so."

He sits down next to the bed.

"... He's better than other doctors." Wellard will admit. (Though, compared to Clive, it is easy to be better.)

"Not difficult. You know we'd not let him treat you if he weren't."

He blinks, then nods slowly. "Good to know. Though Miss Mary had to tell me 'I told you so', for it." Wellard smiles a bit wryly.

"The little lass?" He grins. "Course she did."

"I take it you've met her then, sir." Wellard grins faintly. "Though she had thought this was all from me being ill, before." A faint shake of his head, and he bites his lip, thinking.

"Well, there was no proof of anything else, before this. Does she know now what happened?"

A quiet sigh. "Yes. Apparently... she was hurt by Mrs Rowlands herself, a bit after Christmas. She had told me some, but Miss Mary didn't call her by name, so I didn't know who it was she was talking about."

"I told her what happend."

"Good. Easier for her to keep safe if she knows it all."

He's never believed in sugar-coating for older children.

Neither has Archie. He tilts his head as he walks into the room, carrying a tray with some soup and rolls on it for the lad.

"Good, I'd hoped you'd be awake. Who are we making sure knows everything?"

He nods at Sharpe and sets the tray down on the bedside table, finding a chair for himself.

"Mr Kennedy." Wellard gives him a nod, blinking a bit at the tray.

"... Miss Mary Lennox, sir. She- she had been hurt by Mrs Rowlands before, but she had never said who, when I talked to her. She came in to see me, thinking I had been ill..." A faint, wry smile in place of a shrug.

Archie's smile matches Wellard's in wry.

"You have to be careful of a lass like that."

He nods.

"I'd known that she had been one of those afflicted, but i'd not connected your ilness."

"I knew there was something more to it than it looked", Sharpe mutters. "I'm sorry I didn't tell anyone, lad."

".... I did ask you not to, sir." A sheepish, reassurance to Sharpe.

"And I didn't know what it was either."
