With all her extremely fluffy bangs (and one truly epic ahoge) pushed down over her eyes by the helmet, Duck is having sort of a hard time seeing the pitcher, let alone any balls that come flying at her.

Another one?
It's one thing pitching to Raguel and Raph, but quite another when the opposing batters are quite literally little girls. Crowley taps the ball uneasily against his glove a few times, acutely aware of both who is in the audience, and why he's playing in the first place.
Eventually, he winds up and pitches what he hopes is an easy one, as slow as he can manage.
Re: Top of the Thirdaj_crawleySeptember 18 2009, 03:31:23 UTC
"Right," Crowley calls, a little dubious.
He doesn't know if it's really possible to make his pitch any easier, not without winding up (ha) looking like an idiot. This baseball thing is a lot more difficult than it's made out to be.
Oh, well. Never say die, or whatever the saying is.
Crowley narrows his eyes, takes careful aim at the kid's bat, and lets fly.

Booth steps up to the plate and gives the bat a few practice swings. The pitcher's first throw is a good fastball, and Booth got a piece of it. He hits a sharp line drive to left field. Dropping the bat, he takes off running for first base.

Incoming! Enzo races for the ball, but it hits ground before he reaches it. He scoops it up and hurls it toward second, as the batter is just rounding first.

Father Mulcahy has never, despite any and all knowledge and enthusiasm when it comes to sports, been the athletic type. He reaches and fumbles for Enzo's throw, and comes up with it more out of blind luck -- and use of both hands -- than anything. That, however, is the easy part.
Now there's somebody sliding into his feet.
Ball safely in his glove, he sweeps it down and blindly applies the tag. A cloud of dust billows up around second base -- and when it clears, Meg Ford shouts that the runner is safe.
The first batter for the Paradoxes steps up to the plate, and play is underway again.

But she's gonna do her best!

He's not sure if this one can even see the ball.

It's got a lot of energy behind it, and it's even traveling through basically the right location!
Unfortunately it happens when the ball is only about halfway between the pitcher's mound and the plate.
"I'll get it next time!" Duck shouts, undiscouraged.

"I hit it!" Duck jumps high in the air, letting her bat drop, with a beaming smile on her face. "I really did! I knew I could if I just really tried!"
- then she remembers she's supposed to be running, and takes off at a mad dash for first.

As he nears second, he dives into a slide, hoping he'll make it.

Then he notes the second baseman's military issue garb - and the crucifix. "Uh, sorry, there, chaplain. For running into you and all."
Old habits die hard.

It's still tied, as the Enigmas send their third baseman, X-23, to lead off the bottom of the third.
