First Impressions of Lupe Fiasco: Food & Liquor:

Like any relationship, the accord one builds with an album is a long and ever-developing process.

This being said, I would like to hear people's very first impressions of Food & Liquor. I just got the full today, and if you have the Sept. 11th leak you've only had a few weeks with the album so your opinion, too, is still fresh.

As for myself, I find the thing astounding. Finally I'm finding production on a semi-mainstream album that nearly forces the listener in the face of the lyrics, instead of the lyrics being a conventionally necessary component of an overbearing beat and bass line. The leak I had, from months ago, is quite different from the full CD I have now; They took off some of my favorite songs and added a guest track with Jay-Z, which is exciting even though the appearence fails to inspire much awe. Hova would never want to outshine Lupe, probably.

Even though I haven't totally listened to Food & Liquor all the way though, I can tell it's an effort at an entire, cohesive album (even moreso than Kanye) instead of the ever critically dreaded alternative, the "collection of songs."

More later, I'm sure, but what does everyone else think?
