What I did… I did to serve him because I loved him too much to do otherwise. I couldn’t let him go alone. It would have been the death of me.

And there we have it, in a nutshell. If Sam can feel in his heart that Frodo would want to see him honored, then he can bear to receive even a gift of diamonds from a king.

I can just see him handing the Star to Frodo one day there in the blessed lands. *happy sigh* Now there's a story someone should write.

In his mind’s eye he saw another star… one which had shown out against all hope as he sat beside Frodo in the black lands, one which had renewed his strength and courage when he had believed that all was lost.

I'm so glad you included this in your story--that's the star I took my LJ name from, and it was because I saw the quote in the sidebar of YOUR JOURNAL years ago that I was reminded of it! It's a big part of my spirituality--thank you! *tight hug*

That quote you saw in my LJ is my favorite passage from LOTR. It has helped me thorough some dark and unhappy times... believing that there is light and high beauty forever beyond the reach of shadow. It is a large part of my spirituality too.
