Oh yes, I was wondering how House ended up with the sword and the pistol because I couldn't see him taking them from his mother's home. That you made the cigar box from his bio-dad was nice touch.

House appreciated the skilled engineering of the weapon but its deadly beauty only moved him to remember the feel of bullets tearing into his flesh when he had been on the wrong end of one used in anger.

And thank you for bringing that up even while the writer's didn't bother, and Wilson apparently thinks that event had no affect on House.

Lovely little reflective piece, thanks for posting!

Thank you for commenting. I feel sure that House's feelings about guns must be complicated by having been shot. As a Briton, I'll never understand the American love affair (generally speaking)with the horrid things.

Ah, didn't realise you were british, I'm Australian, and it boggles my mind that Wilson would take a pistol into a hospital so casually and then they would both wave it around!

The _au gives you away! I've yet to see the episode, it's on in an hour or so here, so I was just going on the spoilers and comments, but yes to the boggling :)

This was really needed, an explanation of why House would have the stuff.
I liked the touch of young House's memory having been drilled by learning his father's medals, and the introduction of his bio-dad as well: is it canon that he's a Catholic priest? Or does Padre mean something else?

Bonus points for the word inveigled. I love the richness of this language.

Thank you for this story.

Calling bio-dad Padre was a slip-up by me, having had his housekeeper call him that in an earlier fic (Regrets). He was by no means a Catholic Priest in canon but a Unitarian Minister.I'll have to put inverted commas around it and pretend it was a nickname! We don't know his canon name yet, as far as I'm aware.
Thank you for commenting; I'm glad you liked it.

Oh, House.

This is really, really good. I like how well you've thought it through, about Blythe and what she might be doing now; about House and how he feels about his dad(s); about his feeling that Wilson's friendship is conditional.

Thanks, blackmare_9. I am extremely curious about Blythe and hoping that the writers will seize the opportunity to tell us at least a bit more about her. I think she's an important element in House's story though I'd be seriously miffed if in the end they blame everything on her!

Oh, I doubt the show will go the route of blaming Blythe for anything. I certainly hope not. I think she was caught and she did the best she could.

You got me thinking about the "conditions" of Wilson's friendship with House, too, and mostly I think Wilson would like for there to be a lot more conditions than there are, really; that he may be House's friend who is trying not to be, or House's friend who is furious with him, or won't talk to him right now, or is trying to run away -- but in the end, whether he means to be or not, he's still House's friend. I hope that after the punch and the invitation to dinner, he's become more honest with himself about that. I hope.

Great little insert! I liked the fact that House was woken by the UPS driver - it's the finer details like this that make a fic stand out. You seem to be going from strength to strength! Is it too rude to wonder about you writing a longer, multi-part fic one day ;)? Also, I whole-heartedly agree on the gun thing, I find it really odd that Americans seem to fling them around willy-nilly. I saw a policeman on the street here (UK of course!) with one once and couldn't take my eyes off it; one false move and game over... shudderingly scary. I might add that I was in no way guilty of any sort of crime, I am a law abiding citizen albeit one who doth protest too much... right, I'll go now - great fic!

Yes; I hate seeing armed police at the airport; it makes me feel, not safe but the contrary.
I'm glad you liked my little effort; thanks for commenting. As for longer fics, I've written a couple in the past, largely tongue in cheek but of the H/Cam persuasion, so they may well give offence! Other than that, there's "The Right Thing", which is young House. I think I lack the stamina for multi parters and dabbling in the shallows between episodes doesn't require much imagination!

You are absolutely right about Blythe as a manipulator, I'm sure. She must have been a first class tightrope walker, keeping some semblance of peace between those two. Perhaps House has inhertied his sneakiness from her. John House seems altogether too upfront to have influenced Greg that way.
Thanks for commenting :)

Or maybe even inherited.
