Playing Computer Games no longer Geeky

I was reading This Report and was struck by how normal playing computer games has become. When I was struck by the bug (1978) by Pong and Galaxian and later with my system 80 and CPC464 it was one of the things geeks did. Not so for the last few years.

Now it forms part of most kids balanced media consumption, like watching TV, Reading books and going to the movies. The report shows that average age of gamers in Australia is 36, while for non games its 40. They predict that by 2014 it will be the same. Also 46% of gamers are female.

Something like 88% of Australian households have a gaming device, and consoles beat out computers by 4% (39% PC, 43% Consoles), also according to the report 18% of households have handheld gaming devices.

This little graph is perhaps the best argument I've found against computer game playing leading to health problems, as you can see (after the cut) by and large game players seem to be a little more adventurous and active than the non-gamers.
