Swallowtail Shawl: IK Fall 2006

Apr 01, 2007 16:30

Another Swallowtail! I've made a few mods, which will be listed below.

Pattern: Swallowtail Shawl
Source: Interweave Knits, Fall 2006
Yarn:Zephyr Laceweight in Indigo (50% Merino, 50% Tussah Silk), ~600 yards.

Fresh off the needles. Copy of IK for size comparison.

On my back, in front of the 12th man flag. (Mike was in the office and couldn't be bothered to locate to another, more photogenic space.)

This was somewhere between my 3rd and 4th time adjusting the points. I fixed the ones on the right.

Pretty artsy. Kind of used the Yarn Harlot's method to block to get straight lines.

Yay pretty.

Back onto the floor w/ IK.

Waving in the wind & under cloudy skies.

Mods:
1. Added 4 more repeats of the Bud Lace pattern. (14 to 18) This shawl is for a taller woman, so I wanted it to be more than just a 'shawlette'.

2. Futzed with math for Lily of the Valley pattern. This didn't work out so well...but I'll have to live with it. I was consistently ending up with odd numbers of stitches on the right side of the shawl, but the left side stayed constant. I kind of 'invented' some stitches along the way. I call this 'interperetive knitting'. It is my friend.

3. Omitted 'nupps' from LotV patern. I was on a bit of a time crunch to get this thing done, and the nupps screwed me up something horrible. (Lifelines: 2, Chelsea:0)

And that's about that. It was a great project for Spring Break. The yarn was AMAZING - I bought a cone off of eBay last summer, and I'm happy that I still have a ton left to use. It has a slight sheen to it that just catches your eye and really sets off the wool.

This will get shipped off tomorrow morning to an amazing lady, and I'll be sad, yet happy, to see it go.
