So I am now a farming implement

I was dutifully watering in some broccoli raab that I had just transplanted when my boss (who was tilling up our small non-hoop covered field with his tractor) asked me for my help.

He said "The tines of the chisel plow aren't cutting deeply enough through the soil. How's your balance?"

So I spent the next 30 minutes squatting on the back of the chisel plow as "ballast" holding on for dear life when the tractor hit a bump. I think my boss just wanted an excuse to show me stuff about the tractor and give me plowing pointers (not that he usually lets anyone else drive his tractor). I've never gotten to be plow ballast before. :-)

In other farm equipment news, we got a cute new tiller. It's electric. I used it to till a bed and found that it was either off, or trying to run away from you like a leashed dog who sees a squirrel. It didn't till very deeply either. I went to complain about it to my boss. He looked at me an laughed, and said didn't you know that you have to walk BACKWARDS to use it. Ah, um, yes, well after I tried that, it worked alot better. :-)
