Life in the Shire

I friend of mine occasionally accuses me of being a hobbit (due to my extremely boring and domestic life, I think). At any rate I think I get major hobbit points for these past few weeks.

Work at work:
-Planting cool season veggie transplants (they go into unheated greenhouses, no I'm not way too late for the year)
-Gathering eggs/feeding chickens
-Watering plants and trapping slugs
-Harvesting carrots, beets, arugula, spinach, wong bak, chard, collards, and pea shoots (lettuce soon to come)
-Selling stuff at farmers market last Saturday (wow, people and mental math, the novelty, the pressure)

Work at home:
-Successfully made really good bread (twice)
-Kinda successfully made tortillas from scratch
-Picked a bucket of wax myrtle berries from the apartment landscaping bushes (no one seemed to miss them), boiled off wax, got enough wax to make 2 tea candles (maybe), candles forthcomming
-Helped David make a toy combine out of an old paint roller, spaghetti sauce lids, and a couple of boxes
-Made cardboard "Dinosaur train" dinosaurs that David painted (the kid loves to paint stuff)
-Made cinnamon rolls from scratch
-Made a dinner that involved curry powder that was actually tasty
-Used pumpkin puree from this years jack'o lantern to make yummy pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, and pumpkin muffins

Whew! This is the most productive I've felt in a while. I like it, and hope I can keep it up.

On a side note, I toyed with the idea of naming my own hypothetical garden "Gamgee Gardens." I would make a big mound of soil in the middle of it and plant a nice tree on top of and have a pavillion for parties nearby. I would see how many people got the reference. :-)

Hobbit, yeah.
