This is political

8 is approaching quickly, and we’re ready for the clock to strike. We stand divided from society, from our fellow academics and peers, our loved ones and former friends. We are threatened and warned, labeled and scorned, browbeaten and worn, but we will continue until the second hand reaches the top, and we hope we do too. We want to be tops, to take control of our lives and futures and to hold onto our rights - we are not separate but equal. We are the same, and that should be good enough to guaranty equality.

The fact that this issue is so upside down is blatant: a positive outcome means a negative one, and vice versa. Vote yes to gay marriage! No? Vote yes to equality! Still not getting it? Then it’s easy:

Vote yes. Protect your family. Protect your religion. Protect your selfishness, your hypocrisy, your manipulative skills, your God’s jealousy and contemptuousness. Protect the make-believe value of the lives of those of you too scared of eternal damnation to come out of the closet. Protect the farce that is separation of Church and State by forcing the government to implement the will of the Church. Protect your children, for God’s sake, from learning about one person loving another and wanting to share that love despite its unpopularity.

Honestly, I don’t understand what’s so complicated about this. Vote no on hate. Vote no on 8.
