The Hufflepuff ghost, known today as the Fat Friar was born in 1053 in England. Abandoned by his mother, the boy was taken in by a monastery and was raised with hopes of priesthood.
Regrettably, though understandably, he grew angry at his mother. At sixteen, boy left to seek the pleasures of the world. As many do, he fell into bad company, and soon forgot his godly ways. By the time he was twenty-two, he was a thief and a drunk.
One cold winter’s morning, he was roused by shouts. A mob was coming, furious that he had cheated them out their money in gambling the night before. Panicked, the young man ran for cover, but was soon caught. Before he was harmed, two strange knights rode into town. The knights’ offered to pay the boy’s debts.
In return, the two knights, asked him to return and continue his studies. Over the years, the two knights visited him, often bringing two female friends. At thirty, they asked to come teach at the new school they were forming. There he learned of their magic, though he could do none himself.
For well over fifty years, he lovingly taught the children forgiveness.
