Underwater
Murky depths of garish green were dark, cold, disgusting. Harry hated the lake water, it felt like it was trying to drag him down into the slime, to drown. He wanted to kick hard for the surface before the fingers of the lake choked him. Unable to push down the panic, he looked back at the blonde hair that floated like dead serpents in the slight current. Unthinking, he grabbed the girl’s dead-cold hand and pulled her free. Frantic, he kicked away from the dark.
They broke the surface. Harry gasped for air. Gabrielle’s hair shone damply in the sunlight.
