2004's Alien VS Predator was not a scary movie. It was a decent action movie and you could tell that the makers of it were doing their best to be respectful of both franchises.
2007's AVP-R is a travesty. It's like friday the 13th, or worse - slumber party massacre but with the predator as the killer, and the aliens as non-descript animals that someone let out of the zoo. Awful, I'm so upset about it. It couldn't have been worse if they'd tried. I don't think the directors ever saw either of the original series. I could have written a script for this in my sleep that would have made the predator in this movie piss himself... I don't know what to do... I think I'm going to have to make the movie that will redeem these cornerstones of horror. Ridley Scott, James Camerson, David Fincher, Andy Schroeder; the only people who have a fucking clue on how to make the aliens scary anymore.
Theres plenty of great comic books and novels from both series, why didn't they use any of those ideas? NO, they just decided it would be a much better idea (not plot, there wasn't one) to have the aliens take over the school, and the geek can fight the jocks for the girl while the predator shows up and plays "the crocodile hunter" with the aliens. And the power station is conviniently next to the school, AND a hospital full of pregnant women and babies! Wow, take that Ridley Scott, bet you never thought of that one! Hey James Cameron, letting us get to know a little about your Marines before killing them was stupid, and why bother giving them good dialogue. Just let them show up out of nowhere for 30 seconds to get killed by a Pred-Alien hybrid with dreadlocks! Literally 30 seconds! Theres no need for more than that.
I didn't even watch the end. I walked out. I've only walked out on two movies ever, Napolean Dynamite (garbage wes anderson knockoff) and AVP-R (Two series that I've been a huge fan of since I was like 9)
