I am finally recovering from The Virus From Hell. I started to feel lousy Friday and have spent most of the entire WEEK that has passed since then propped up on my couch (propped for better nasal drainage) with my eyes closed, drifting in and out of consciousness and, when conscious, drinking gallons of Gatorade. Wednesday I developed enough of an attention span to watch ancient comfort videos (how I wish Scarecrow and Mrs. King were out on DVD; some of my tapes are molding) and I stood up for an entire half hour, which my dog was visibly relieved about until I broke a lamp. Today I felt substantially better, like I feel when I have a regular cold, and I celebrated by grading 18 lab reports. (I also read some of The Fifties and have a much clearer picture of Rosa Parks now.) And I finally have attained an interest in food again. I am hardly ever not interested in food. Normally when I'm vomiting I think I'm hungrier than I was during this nightmare.
Tomorrow, back to teaching. Wish me luck.
