Shameless plug from my volunteer gig:
I recently joined the Board of Directors of Boston Pride, and wanted to let you know a few bits of news from the Pride Committee:
-- Boston Pride is completely volunteer run. It's a huge event each year and we need your help! We're currently looking for people to chair a few of our committees - especially the media committee. If you know of anyone who has media experience or who would like to get MORE! experience... drop me a note. There are more details on (the many!) (other!) volunteer positions
online here. -- The Boston Pride Committee is seeking input from the community to select the 2008 Theme and Marshals of the Boston Pride Celebrations. Did you have a problem with last year's theme? (I did!) Well, make your voice heard for this year's theme! Cast your ballot for the theme and for this year's marshals by
clicking here. at the link below! Deadline to submit your vote is: March 1st, 2008 - noon.
Please note... All of the bios for those nominated for parade marshal were submitted by those in the community who nominated the person. Since he's a friend of mine (um. hello! best friend!), I also wanted to note that the bio for Toni Amato is shortly to be changed to the following:
Recognizing that silencing effects of homophobia and transphobia causes members of the LGBTI community -- especially young LGBTI people -- to often be marginalized and at risk, Toni Amato founded and directs Write Here Write Now. The pay-as-you-go organization seeks to overcome barriers within traditional forms of literary support and development. Amato strives to ensure that LGBTI voices are heard and recently launched Side Show Press in order to create additional publishing venues.
Amato works with at-risk youth and queer youth in Chelsea, with the Queer Soup theater group, and volunteers once a month at Waltham House, a group home for LGBTI foster children. He served as editor for the Lambda Award Finalist anthology Pinned Down By Pronouns, published by Conviction Books Press. He has been a teacher, editor, and writing coach for over fifteen years. His fiction appears in several anthologies, including Tristan Taorminos Best Lesbian Erotica series, and Lammy Award Finalist I Do, I Don't, from Suspect Thoughts Press.
