It's finally warmed up again to 70 degrees here, which is great since my house doesn't have a heater. I recently got free furniture from the neighbors. They were getting rid of a couch and chair to make room for a new couch and chair. Anyway, we tried to fit this couch through a narrow door and back it into my apartment. The problem both of our apartments are on the second story, over a very narrow walkway. Since the door was very narrow, we had to balence the couch on a thin metal banister to get it into my apartment. The couch was also extremely heavy because there were two recliners imbedded into it. In addition, I had to leverage the couch over my head on top of this all.
Oh, and finally, there was a glass table right underneath where we were doing all this.
So after holding the chair over my head for about 2 minutes, my arms started to get really tired. I tried balencing the couch on a narrow banister, but the other guy who was helping me get the couch out had to push DOWN on me to get it through the door. Arms getting tired...balencing on a pole...glass table below...can anyone tell where I'm going with this yet?!
I dropped the couch and smashed the table into a million pieces! The people below came out and started yelling hysterically. I tried to tell them that I'd pay for it, since I was the one who dropped it, but I don't think they were listening. I don't think they wanted to listen. I had to fend off whatever the hell they said to me, but at that point there wasn't any reason to argue....
That last paragraph was a lie. The movers actually helped us put the couch in my apartment without incident. Now I have a new couch and chair! I don't know what to do with them since I don't get any vistors here. Maybe I'll sleep on them one day. Unfortunately, the neighbors were chain-smokers, and I can smell the smoke in the furniture immediately. I think I'll air it out for a month first.
