After a long search for a job here in Chicago I finally managed to get a job. I started working sometime in late February/March. Why yes, it is nice to have an income, however, I never imagined a job to be so difficult and draining. I work at a charter school near the Humboldt Park area. I am a TA for a third grade classroom where the students are all African American. My friend Dylan let me know about the position and I'm so thankful because I was really struggling with the job search.
I started a day or two after I was interviewed. Things were alright at first. I really admired the command that the teacher had and also the way she included positive reinforcements to her dialogue. I was really looking forward to being with this age group because they are so young. Maybe I could seep some awesome critical thinking skills into their subconscious.
After being with this class for over two months, I can honestly say that I do not do well with discipline or chaotic situations with little humans. This is mostly due to the fact that I do not want to inflict any emotional damage while they are so young. However, I can't stand being mean and considering I haven't had much practice being mean, it's very difficult to channel anger.
