made me think

my u.s history 2 class is basically a black history class taught by this young really cool black guy who swears at us and makes fun of everyone and makes the class really interesting, and he's always in a really good mood and gets so into his lectures that he sweats and goes through 3 bottles of water and runs around the classroom yelling and is just a really good teacher. so today he was talking about lynchings in the 1800's and how 90% of the lynchings were black people and there were over 5,000 people killed for pretty much no reason and he was showing us pictures of the bodies hanging from trees all burnt up and cut apart with crowds of people around them smiling, all happy, and little kids around, as if it was nothing. then when he took down the last picture from the projector thing he got really flustered and was like "i HATE giving this lecture, and every night before i give it i can't sleep, i can't sleep because i know shit like this happened and that there were people like this in the world, i hate this lecture, i tried to wear my happy pink shirt today to keep me in a good mood but it didn't work, it didn't work" and he was pacing back and forth getting all upset and then he threw his hands up and he's like "you guys can go we'll finish this another time" and he left the room, and class wasn't supossed to be over for another half hour.

everyone was just like wow, and stared at each other and no one knew what to say. i felt really bad because he seemed wicked upset, and i just realized how passionate he is about what he teaches. he's one of those people that don't teach us stuff because he has to but because he truley thinks we'll benefit from the knowledge, and i think more teachers should be like that. the fact that something gets to him as much as that did but he still chooses to teach it to us the best he can was just impressive. like, he did not have to show us those pictures that he did, or take it to the extent that he did, but he did, and idk why the fact that it got to him so much got to me, but it did.
