Settling In: It's Hot!

Last night, I dreamed that my dad had quit his job and decided to become a repo man. My dream self was distraught and telling him not to do it ("It's so dangerous!"), but he enthusiastically countered with, "Yeah, but the money's SO GOOD." Then he donned a black beanie and was off, while I was left to bemoan his decision. FYI, my dad is a software engineer. It kind of reminds me of the chartered accountant in Flying Circus who wanted to become a lion tamer. I woke up feeling depressed and confused.

in other news, it appears that San Diego is completely sold out of fans. Yesterday, Sam, his roommates, and I spent two hours driving around SD trying to buy some floor fans for their AC-less apartment and my AC-less room. Two Targerts, Best Buy, two Walmarts, Lowe's, Home Depot, and Costco were ALL sold out of fans. We eventually found our fans at the CVS in La Jolla, which is ironically 5 minutes from their apartment, much to our relief and dismay.

My apartment is pretty sweet. Our living room is huge, we have a dishwasher, it's a 1 minute walk to a grocery store, I have my own half bathroom (shower is shared), but most importantly, I HAVE MY OWN ROOM. Rent is also about $200 cheaper than the on campus apartment I was in last year, which had no dishwasher, shared rooms, and one bathroom for 4 people. All of my furniture in my room at home was given away 2 years ago, so I had to buy all new furniture at Ikea. My mom and I spent around 4 hours there... In any case, after assembling the majority of my furniture I am still unpacking all my boxes and putting away all my clothes. I still need to assemble my desk, desk lamp, wall shelf and wall hooks, but once I do, I will take pictures of my new (my own!!!) room and post them. My roommate is also awesome; we get along very well. It's definately the best place I've lived so far, and it really feels like home, even though I've only been here a week.

I also just became a research assistant at the Center for Understanding and Treating Anxiety; it's a clinical psychology lab run by Dr. Amir, who's a professor in the joint doctoral clinical psych program (SDSU & UCSD). It's unpaid, and they're going to work me to death, but RESUME BUILDING FTW. It's going to be great experience, and it'll help me decide what the hell I want to do in psychology (besides clinical) because it's very relevent to what I think I want to do.

Did I mention I'm also joining Sam's LARP this year? I'm slowly assembling my costume--already written my backstory. I am excited! Plus, this means I get to hang out with Sam's friends more, and Sam's friends are kickass.

Basically, this year is going to be amazingly awesome.

moving in, san diego
