Can you go a year without flying?

We have a decade in which to halve our carbon emissions - or see our children's future destroyed. There are many things we can do towards this goal, but one of the simplest and most effective is to cut down on aviation.

Just one return flight from London to New York produces a greater carbon footprint than a whole year's personal allowance needed ( Read more... )

Well, I told you yesterday. I have flown only several times in my life. But I did travel by bus to UK - and A LOT!!!What I always see - hundreds of heavy trucks everywhere, spiting fumes, noisy and dangerous...
There are planes in the sky and trucks on the ground...and global business behind everything.
For an ordinary older traveler, spending 18 hours on the bus is more and more difficult, simply because of health. The bus produces the fumes too...
Maybe we are close to the time when we will have to return to horses.
But - I would LOVE re-introducing airships!!!!

The only way we can reduce trucks is by buying less - which I suspect you and I do anyway.

People buy so much that they do not need.

18 hours on a coach sounds very uncomfortable. And if you stop for a decent break, that adds to the cost. (buses are local routes, coaches are long distance)

Airships sound cool! They are making a small comeback, but only for short routes with heavy freight. They're too slow for passenger transport.
