I don't normally fall for web scams, but I got caught by this one, so be alert.
I bought an item from a site called Redsave.
What I hadn't realised was that every item has two prices, the 'retail' price and the 'redsave' price.
If you click on the redsave price, then your basket automatically gains this:
1 x Free 30 Day RedSave Trial Pass Worth £19.95
Free for 30 days then £19.95 per month, cancel anytime More Info
Partly my fault, I probably should have noticed it, but I think I just caught it in the peripheral vision and read it as free trial pass.
What I didn't realise, was that it will automatically take the money from your bank account after month and keep on doing so until you cancel, and when you read the cancellation terms it's clear that they will normally be able to take a second payment even if you cancel after the first payment as 'cancelling part way through a billing period' means you have to pay. And they reserve the right to change the date of the billing period.
This scheme could easily have been legit - they do offer significantly lower prices to people who have a pass and I could see a pass being worth for anyone likely to shop there regularly.
The reason I count it as a scam is because they never ask you to tick a box saying 'I want to pay £19.95 per month to be able to join your discount club'.
They try and slide it past you - and judging by the response when I googled for 'redsave scam' I am far from alone.
I've contacted my bank to ensure no further payments can be taken, but there's no way I can recover the first payment. (which, needless to say, is more than I saved on the item I bought)
Do NOT use Redsave. No matter how good the price looks when you're doing comparisons on Google.
