Criticism is hard to take sometimes. Especially from someone you care about.

"You are very predictable".

In the context is was used it was a criticism. I also never want to be predictable. I relate it to boring.

Predictable could also mean consistent... and isn't that better than the alternative? Sometimes it's nice to know what to expect from someone rather than wondering what you're going to get from them from one encounter to the next.

I could use a little bit of predictability in my life right now, yanno?

Well, it's time to surprise this person and do something totally unpredicatable.

I find it harder to take criticism from people who are close to me (and/or for whom I have a lot of respect). I think it's because I have this innate need to please everyone - especially those who fall within the aformentioned categories - and so by finding that they've noticed a shortcoming of mine makes me feel bad, as though I've let them down.

In some ways you are. Routine happens. It's not bad, or boring. People have their schticks. Schticks get predictable when you know someone for a little while.

Don't worry, you'll always be a big geek to me. :)
